Based on this variable I construct a path to a program. I them use this path in a call to 'system' like this: i = system(path); The problem is that the path (returned from 'getenv') looks something like: c:\\root\\subdir\\etc The error I get from the system command is: 'c:rootsubdiretc: no such device or address It's obvious that the system command is not parsing the path correctly.
