It is the default; because, it is the WIN32 default. With file translation mode set to text then a ^Z _WILL_BE_THE_END_OF_FILE_. Two options: 1) get the source to scp, modify the opens to specify binary mode and build it. 2) modify the mounts to be text=binary.
