Hi,

just a suggestion:

For Linux there is a small programm called *recode*, which converts DOS,
Unix, MAC and a few other file types back and forth.
It compiles with Cygnus' gcc out of the box and works as expected on NT.
Expecially it takes care of all the oddities mentioned in this thread.
It will only work on binary mounts, though.
