Haha, no there wasn't… just on that other system vi is aliased to vim.
So also on that system, running vi produces the error, while running vim
doesn't.

On yet another system where I still have the previous version installed
both work correctly as intended.  I've rolled back to the previous
version on the affected system and things are OK again as well.
