I just found this document:

At the very bottom of it, you may find the note:

> The maximum total environment variable size for all variables, which
> includes variable names and the equal sign, is 65,536KB. 

Which seems to be in disagreement with

(And consequently,

)

I don't know, how it is applicable to Cygwin, but I find it interesting.
