Oops, sorry -- usual phenomenon of remembering somewhere else to look
just after hitting C-c C-c.

For the record, I was setting LC_ALL in the Windoz System
Properties/Environment Variables/User variables for ht.  I've removed
that, added LANG=en_GB.utf8 and LC_COLLATE=C and all is now
old-fashionedly well.
