The real solution lies in Cygwin, I fear.  We probably have to add a
tweak to the pathname handling which reverts to good old Win32
compatible filenames (no leading spaces, no trailing dots and spaces)
when the target filesystem is Samba.

I look into it, but maybe not for 1.7.4.
