Sorry -- I used the setup.exe cygwin program to download the packages and their distributions of it don't work. I actually just downloaded and compiled ctris and ninvaders myself and they work fine (not as awesome as I wanted but heh whatever :)

I am curious why the binary I got from the setup.exe would give me this error message in the first place then?

You're making us guess by not providing many details but my first guess
would be that ctris and ninvaders are not cygwin programs and don't use
Cygwin's version of ncurses.
