Because your PS1 prompt looks like that ("bash-3.2$"), it appears
that you are running bash without the --login option. That is, it
appears that you did not execute cygwin.bat.

What did you do to get the console with the "bash-3.2$" prompt? Did
you double-click the "Cygwin" icon on your desktop?

Gary
