http://cygutils.fruitbat.org/ITP/mixed-mode-demo.tar.bz2

contains
jpeg-6b-12.cygport
jpeg-6b-12.cygwin.patch
jpeg-6b-12.src.patch
jpegv6b-loslesscrop-after-ljpeg-debian.tar.bz2

which is a CVS cygport with SRC_URI of
"${PN}-${PV}-${PD}.tar.bz2 \
  ftp://ftp.simplesystems.org/pub/ImageMagick/delegates/ljpeg-6b.tar.gz \
  jpegv6b-loslesscrop-after-ljpeg-debian.tar.bz2"

so: main source code from CVS, download an upstream patch with binary
test-images in a tarball via ftp, unpack a local (e.g. no download URI
specified) tarball containing multiple upstream patches, THEN apply
.src.patch and .cygwin.patch.

If THAT doesn't exercise the mixed-mode patch, nothin' will.

When you're ready for another test case for one of the other patches,
let me know.
