Best guess is that it is still this problem:

(see subsequent discussion for why this wasn't a real solution)

which, AFAIK, remains as a problem today.

The latest snapshot just increases the size of a pipe buffer.  So, it
isn't a real fix, just a workaround.  There is still a problem lurking
there but fixing it isn't trivial.
