It fails only on the latest release of cygwin, in a tool that's part of the cygwin distribution.

Thanks for your enthusiastic response.

I did not expect any immediate solution, but I didn't expect to be raked over the coals for reporting a bug either.

Perhaps I'll just shut up, fix the bugs myself, and not tell anyone.
