You are wrong, it happens every time the executable changes name.

That's only the "target", the icon is a sepparate setting.

Of course if the target is "run ... xemacs ..." it works for every release
because xemacs is a link to the executable (xemacs-21.4.19.exe is the one I=
 have).

As I said, the icon is inside the executable file, which changes names with=
 each
release.  That's the reason you'll have to go into the properties of your
shortcut and "refresh" the icon path (not really refresh, it will complain =
first
that the old executable is not found).
