You didn't provide enough details (in particular, please attach the output of 'cygcheck -svr' as a text attachment): > Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html However, my guess is that one of the dependencies was an update to base-files, and that you had a cygwin process running during the upgrade so that the postinstall for base-files did not execute cleanly (at least, that seems to have been the problem for the 3 or 4 other reports of this issue this past week - searching the list archives is informative).
