Phil,

There are spam/virus filters, and there are messages with spoofed e-mail
addresses that seem to come from a known source.  The former are heavily
used on the Cygwin lists (although they seem to have failed for a bit on
the cygwin-xfree list, but look fixed now).  The latter the Cygwin mailing
list software can't do anything about.
