And XP has a share mounted from the linux host via samba as say.. H: so, in cygwin it would be /cygdive/h. And you have a shortcut to that dive.... it's a bad idea to move a folder of backup files to that destination (ie "mv backup ../linuxshare/"). There will be no error message, and your data is gone...
