You might try DebugView from sysinternals.com.  The strace data will 
appear in a nice searchable window.  This method avoids the it works in 
strace and gdb problems.  You can also apply filters on what to and what 
not to see.  I suggest that you might want to set to filter out rxvt if 
you use rxvt unless of course you want to debug rxvt.
