You are absolutely correct, thank you.  I did not try other tapes, the first
one that I tried was bad.  I had a number of driver and cabling issues to
work through before this, I had never even considered that the tape was shot!
I wonder how many correct solutions passed by me without notice because of
the bad tape!  :/
