Did you really mean the following?

    uid_t orig_uid = geteuid (); // geteuid() not getuid()
    seteuid (ctl->uid);          // seteuid() not setuid()

    [...]

    seteuid (orig_uid);

Note that fetchmail is using seteuid() not setuid().
