Well that's odd.  Perhaps the last time I use the "normal" setup was 
pre-chuck-reinstalls-everything-without-inheritable-permissions (remember 
the inherited permissions guinea pig experiment I did?)

In any case, 2.78.2.14 fixes the problem.  Thanks, Chris.
