Joe,
By default, Cygwin has a few issues with WinXP.
First, it doesn't exactly set permissions correctly on the
/etc/ssh_host*_key files if running sshd. But the getfacl and setfacl
commands are your friends.
Second, I have been unsuccessful in getting a remote connection to use
bash. But using sh works fine. Change the entry in your /etc/passwd
file.

Subject: Windows XP problems?

Hi --

I searched the archives using these keywords: xp, windows xp.
I
searched Google using these keywords: cygwin, windows, xp. I didn't
find
the answer to my question, so I'm posting here.

-----

A user of Shaolin Secure FTP (http://www.shaolinsecureftp.com/),
mailed me with this problem:

> ssh.exe: *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap (0x2420000) in
> child, cygheap, Win32 error 487
> Connection closed

He is using Windows XP. Has anyone ever experienced this? If
XP
isn't doing this, does anyone know what is?

Thanks in advance for any help.

	- Joe Testa
