bugtraq and other security related lists have reams of data on streams. They
are an old old concept borrowed from VMS (and I don't know how far back you
need to go to find the origin), but unlike VMS not shown by dir.

Anway, they're probably off topic here, but do a google search, or look at
the focus-ms or bugtraq-nt lists for more info.
