As the page says this is Wget version 1.5.3 (which is more than a couple
of years old now) with some internal structures implemented as hash
tables instead of linked list. So the only difference with stock version
1.5.3 is an improved performance when downloading web-sites with many
(interlinked) files.

If this was the problem you had with Wget then you should try the
current CVS source for wget-1.7-dev (since you feel like using
development releases anyway) this has not only the hash table support
but also SSL, Keep-alive connections, NT and VMS FTP servers (not only
*nix), cookies, ...
