Hi, All, :)

Thank you to both DJ and Jon who quickly responded to my query!  This
is a great list, even for my slightly off-topic questions.  Jon, the
main book I've used for reference has been the Llama book, which in
the printing I have makes no mention of chomp.  Setting $/ to "\r\n"
immediately solved my problem.
