I just managed to build gnu Ghostscript 5.50 under Cygwin 1.1.8-2.

This links against the png and libz dlls:

$ cygcheck gs.exe
Found: f:\cygwin\usr\local\bin\gs.exe
f:\cygwin\usr\local\bin\gs.exe
  f:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\bin\libICE.dll
    C:\WINNT\System32\cygwin1.dll
      C:\WINNT\System32\KERNEL32.dll
        C:\WINNT\System32\ntdll.dll
  f:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\bin\libSM.dll
  f:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\bin\libX11.dll
  f:\cygwin\bin\cygpng2.dll
    f:\cygwin\bin\cygz.dll

I'm willing to be a maintainer of this if no one else volunteers.

Of course, if you want me to be a maintainer, I'd change the
install directories to /usr instead of /usr/local.

Let me know and I'll get started,
