I have to tell you that bug reports like this are driving me crazy.

Did you run setup.exe from an empty directory as indicated?

Did you see anything on your screen that indicated that cygwin was being
updated?  Or was it just silent?

Can you think of any tiny clue besides "something went wrong" that might
help track down this problem?
