In case you want to use a network printer, you can:
leave lpr-command as "" and setq printer-name as "//host/printer"
This works for Emacs 20.5.1. I hope it also works for XEmacs.

I use a network printer and do not have the /dev/prn nor /dev/lpt-1-3, how can I
print directly from cygwin bash ?
