I'm having exactly the same problem, and with same code as joel DOT jacobson AT mobigym DOT se.
GLIBC 2.1.2 compiles with egcs 1.1.2, my standard compiler, just fine, so the
problem seams to be in pgcc 2.95.3 (by the way why you haven't change the version
number, the pgcc -v still reports gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release))
