Actually, anybody can deal with RPMs using rpmunpack. It's tiny, 1
file, 145 lines. It simply extracts the cpio.gz from the rpm.

I've used it, and had no problems, even compiling and running it on a
SPARC Solaris box.
If you want more functionality, try some of the other goodies in
/pub/Linux/utils/package on metalab.
