A zlib compile from pgcc-2.91.03 971225 (gcc-2.8.0) when doing
a 'make test' fails.

Try:

../configure
make test

This works fine using gcc-2.7.2.3.

(this is why ssh-1.2.21 sucks up all your ram with the -C [compress]
option)
