You need a fancier command processor or batch util to split fully qualified 
names into their component parts for this exercise...and without a bootable 
version of the DOS available yet, it isnt' the best time to identify and learn 
them.<g>

When I crossed this bridge in the day, I redirected "DIR *.??_" to a text file 
and used QEdit to duplicate the filename list, insert "EXPAND" at the beginning, 
and modify the extension for the target filename to make a BAT. Older and wiser 
now, there are slicker and sleeker ways to generate a one-liner...but they'd 
still take longer to explain/nab utility/drop utility into a usable location 
than the low-tech manual hack.<g>

Hopefully this is an academic exercise, or are you still trying to get your 
installation working?
