Of course, I did realize this bug a long time ago and studied the given
UKA-sources. According to them, the comm number actually should be displayd
correctly. Wonder why not. Bad programming, Mr. Weiss ...
(Unfortunately, as old as I am - I am a perfectionist ...)

See beneath.

Then UKA_PPP is even not dialling. When configuring "$BAUD=28800", as an
example, my screenshot shows:

*---

at&FL2M2
Modem not responding!
pktdrvr.bat ppp 2F8 3 28800Í 60 t-online
28800Í: unrecognized command
Wrong program arguments.
PPP link is down, driver not installed.
Hangup (y)?

*---

Since 28800 bps is the sum of 19200 + 9600 bps, I'll next make a trial with
38400 (but am sure it will not work also; tested this formerly already)!

Was recommended by an experienced blind user, Werner Haber, who used UKA
formerly before changing to windows. The pity is: I seem to be the only
fossil in Germany still using m$dos!

*Must* be. Reasons: Always want to hear the bits streaming in the modem's
speaker - default is stopping the noise after some seconds.
For this reason, the modem init string was changed by me far later from the
default. Higher speed was not possible before, also.

The only thing I remember: My modem is an external USRobotics with somethin
as 38 kbps.
