I'll do that next. Had I thought, I'd have tried before 
writting.

Yes, I did think to get ASPI8DOS.SYS "AIC-78XX/AIC-75XX ASPI 
Manger for DOS, Version 1.36" from Adaptec's site.

I had made serveral attempts after abandoning all in CONFIG.SYS 
and AUTOEXEC.BAT execept for the drivers and 4DOS, all without 
success.

I'll cross check against MS-DOSes and perhaps a PC-DOS this 
weekend and see where that leads.
