Joe's comment made me think about PowerBasic which is still available in
DOS format as a download with electronic documentation. Go to
www.powerbasic.com, their web site is mostly text so should not cause
you a problem. It does cost, 99 dollars currently. I used PowerBasic for
several years and thought well of it but I do very little direct
programming now. Most of what I do is within Paradox to amplify my
databases.
