The most common use of the S word is in text like "This is not sp..!
This is an honest ..."  It's spam.

As for making lists subscriber-only, the software just doesn't support
that yet, and I don't have the time to work on it to add support.  I
would like to do interesting things with it, but I have other
priorities at the moment.
