I asked Matthias in a private e-mail if he knew how IBM's PC DOS 7/2000 =
PCMCIA drivers compared to the Card Soft drivers IBM favored with my =
laptop? IBM Thinkpad 380XD, US Robotics model XJ4336 Megahertz 33.6 PC =
Card Modem, and Megahertz model XJ10BT or XJ10BC PCMCIA Ethernet 10 Mbps =
LAN Adapter.

His response was he'd used Award's CardWare (which is a DPMS client and =
therefore very recommendable for DR-DOS) with a Toshiba notebook he =
previously owned. He states Award was purchased by Phoenix and Card Ware =
was sold to another corporation.

I found on the OpenDOS Mail Archives dated 2001/03/10 his message, =
00a901c0a9e4$84d58fc0$0708e289 AT mpaul, . In it Matthias states the =
version he used was 2.5. Evidently he was aware of a version 5.0 and =
CardControl also; cited in an earlier paragraph of the message.

I clicked on the link listed for Award and found a note on the Phoenix =
webpage that CardWare was sold to Unicore Software, Inc. See =
http://www.unicore.com/products/ . I am familiar with Unicore's LBA Pro =
BIOS extender card for seamless intergration of a secondary BIOS for LBA =
support. I purchased one for use on my 1st PC, a Compaq Prolinea 486DX, =
years ago. I was mildly surprised and pleased to "discover" this firm is =
offering CardWare for DOS/Windows version 6.0.012 Unicore lists the =
software for US $69.95 plus $9.95 shipping. Shipping to Canada $25, =
outside US $35.=20

See =
http://www.unicore.com/techsupport/cardware/documentation/CWdw6_ug.pdf =
for the User Guide for the version 6.0 software. Note this appears to be =
a version 5.0 booklet with a new (version 6.0) cover. This link lists =
Unicore's upgrade policies for CardWare =
http://www.tssc.de/web/policies.htm .

I am not connected in any fashion with Unicore or their affiliates. The =
information is offered to DOS users wanting data regarding CardWare. I =
presume others will be interested in the same information I sought.

Are there any mailing list subscribers using CardWare PCMCIA drivers? =
Does use of CardSoft drivers negate the requirement for separate drivers =
for the PC cards themselves?

I'm probably most interested experience with version 6.0+ since Unicore =
Software, Inc. or TouchStone Software Corp don't seem to support earlier =
versions. I note users may obtain a 40% discounted upgrade for software =
less than a year old. If the software is over 1 year old, full purchase =
price is required for an upgrade.=20

Users can obtain a 15 day evaluation version or purchase the software at =
http://www.tssc.de/products/cwdos/cardware_dos.htm . This link lists =
supported PC Card Adapters =
http://www.tssc.de/download/docs/List%20of%20Supported%20Controller%20Chi=
ps.pdf and this one lists supported PC Cards =
http://www.tssc.de/download/docs/List%20of%20Tested%20PC%20Cards.pdf .

Many thanks,

John
