Hello Bob,
ABout 1 year ago I was able to order Pc Dos 2000 still from IBM and
picked-up two copies at that time, (1 still unopened), and it was my
understanding that support for this OS was good through 2001 but no mention
after that?
I would still suppose that it could be ordered from IBM this year
however I've long ago misplaced the phonenumber I used however it was in the
U-S and it was tole-free at the time!
My copy is on 3.5 disk however cd-rom was an option at the time.
If interested I would suggest anyone contact IBM sales. If necessary I
believe I could dig up a part number just write back if needed and I'll see
if I couldn't grab that fairly fast for whomever.
I never recieved the impression that PcDos was going away just being
more directed towards the non-U.S market which we all are aware is windows
overdone.
    Mark

-I am checking with my daughter, who works at IBM. I don't recall
-specifically when I heard/read about this, but it was back in 1998
-or 1999. I was trying to find a copy of PCDOS 7 in the stores and
-no-one was selling it. At Comp USA one of the clerks told me it
-was no longer being distributed, or at least they could not order
-it. Somewhere I read that they were dropping all further development
-on PCDOS and concentrating on OS2 WARP 4, and that one of the
-reasons was payments to M$ and the other was the decline in
-demand for DOS, as Windows became more popular. Of course
-they did release PCDOS 2000, but AFAIK it was only available on
-the Web site and never sold in stores, and I never heard of it being
-installed on any OEM PC's, at least not around here in California.
-PCDOS 2000 was only supposed to have a few minor improvements
-related to Y2K. I did not even know about it's existence until
-someone on the list mentioned it.
-As soon as I get some more definitive info I'll let you know.
