Anywhere I encounter measurement units in English context there is
"foot", "Farenheit", "inch", "mile", "lb", etc. without even reference that
SI system is known in America at all...

Well, lets look in history. In 1737 french publisher Furnje propose to
measure size of typography fonts in points and in the end of XVIII this was
enhanced by Dido. This system relate to 12-base system of foots and inches.
Now there present next measures:
Dido (European/Russian) typometric system:
1 point = 0.0148 inches = 0.376 mm = 1.070 English points
10 points = 0.1480 inches = 3.759 mm = 10.707 English points
96 points = 1.4208 inches = 36.086 mm = 102.784 English points
English (UK/USA) typometric system (Pica system):
1 point = 0.0138 inches = 0.351 mm = 0.934 Dido points
10 points = 0.1383 inches = 3.514 mm = 9.34 Dido points
96 points = 1.3280 inches = 33.734 mm = 89.664 Dido points
So, 1 UK/USA point = 0.934 Dido points, 1 inch = 73,3 UK/USA points = 67,5
Dido points = 25,4 mm. More worser, most publishing software uses 1 inch =
72 points equality.
So, I was wrong when say that inches for English and American differs,
but this anyway not comparable with European systems. Also, there differs
fonts names:
3 points = four-to-pica/excelsior (UK/USA) = Brilliant (German/Russian)
4 points = brilliant (UK/USA) = Diamant (German/Russia)
etc.
