The clock is run on the internal batery (which should last for atleast 5
years). However there are other things that uses power in a ATX computer.
The computer always have power, wake-on-lan, wake-on-key and wake-on-modem
will all of them turn the computer into full power if activated.
I had to explain that there was a risk for two of my students a few weeks
ago if the NIC was able to do this (depends on the card and the BIOS
settings) since one of them said that it was impossible and that a friend
(who didn't know a thing about computers) was afraid of it.
