We use DRDOS and packetdriver networking extensively, and have an nfs
client that permits transparent diskspace shareing with Linux servers.
The specific problem for which I suggested LanManager was the need for
DRDOS to share files/printers in MicroSoft MickyMouse Networking ala
Network Neighborhood. That is SMB protocol, and so far as I know,
LanManager is the simplest solution. Personally, I would prefer using a
Linux box for printer/file sharing with nfs and samba, and not fool with
lan manager. But not everyone has a linux box laying around.
