No, you have not done it wrong. ;-)
"Auto" is fine for old and new MB's ... for old MB's this is
effectively the *same* as "disabled" ... for ATAPI-aware
MB's, I have no idea if it's the same as "disabled", or if
the BIOS gives a different indication. In either case, you
can *always* use "disabled" (or "auto", of course) with
your ATAPI drives ...
