I can't really comment since I've never needed any help with this. There's
an accompanying note with the drives - undependent of brand - that gives
you some information, personally I never RTFM. Anyway, the point I was
going to make is that I still can't see where the problem is, even if I
would need help I would only call the company where I bought it and ask them.

Conner junk? I have one that still works good (a whooping 250MB from the
early 90's).

This is the second mail where you claim this Pat. I have never ever seen
nor heard of any problems with mixing HD brands. Personally I've used the
following: IBM, Seagate (2 IIRC) and Quantum and Conner. No matter how
these have been mixed it has *always* worked without any problems what so
ever. Perhaps this was a problem of the past but this is my advice to
everyone: Buy the HD that gives you best performence and size vs. prize
(currently that's an IBM UDMA100 46.1GB here in Sweden).

Probably because they've never heard of such a problem ;-)
