Opppps,, you are right, I was thinking of ZIP and LS-120 and hard drives
at the time I thought of that. You can also leave it set to AUTO.

No, No,

If you have a seingle drive it should be set as a single drive, this is
sometimes labled CHS but have seen other labels for it. (Talk about
standards they cannot even get that straight.) Many times this is just
not installing a jumper or putting it across two pins where it won't do
anything. Some drives have the CHS pins and other do not.(Again another
great standard.)

You may be able to run a single drive as a master, but I have always set
single drives to the single setting.
