I haven't installed 98 on this system. the only ones I did were on
Gateway computers and used the entire drive for FAT 32. So I am glad
they fixed that junk in 98.

Can you disable the one on the MB in BIOS or by jumper? You may be
getting an IRQ or BASE address conflict in DOS with both of them
installed. I have no experience with that card. I have a genuine
SB-16SCSI-II FAST card and a genuine SB PCI64 card. I have not yet
installed the PCI64 yet. I selected the PCI64 as it is a legacy card and
will work with any OS including a driver in Linux. It may not be as
fancy as the one you have, but it works. It does emilate the SB-16 in
DOS. When I install it, I'll want to see if the SB-16 programs will work
with it, like dignose, play. etc.
My bother has the SB-AWE32 card and CDROM. It also works under DOS and
WINDOZE.
Both of th ones you have are probably PnP, but somehow DOS will see it.
My guess is they are using the same IRQ, Base address and DMA channels
(1 and 5) for DOS. If there is no way to disable the onboard chip via
jumper or CMOS setup, you can always pull the chip(s). Then that will
fix the problem. You can get those boards with or without the sound
chip(s). make sure you are grounded before pulling the chip(s). You
should use a chip puller, but I use any ole small screwdriver I can find
to pull them. But I have many years experience doing this and do not
bend the pins or damage the chip.

Not tcp/ip or an RAS. There are packages available for tcp/ip and PPP
connects (and SLIP for that metter.) One I have is Minuet. You can also
steal or use the stuff out of WEBSPYDER. It has all the rcp/ip and PPP
stuff in it. In fact if you do not intend to set up a network, you could
just remove the PNW and use WEBSPYDER. There is supposed to be an
improved version of it out there someplace. Archaine or something
similar. I'll be playing with that stuff soon as I now have a ISP with a
shell account and they run Linux boxes.

Okay, you do not use both HIMEM.SYS and EMM386 with DRDOS. It works
differently. The EMM386 is the equivalent of both MS HIMEM.SYS and
EMM386. The DRDOS HIMEM.SYS is for 286 processors.
Now that you have the DRDOS multiboot installed, you use the
AUTODOS7.BAT and DCONFIG.SYS files for your DOS configuration and setup.
Do not use the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS fies. they could mess up
WINDOZE. If you put the CDROM drivers in the CONFIG.SYS file under
stupid 95, the dumb thing would try and load both the DOS and WINDOZE
drivers and would crash the system. It appears that they fixed that in
98, but why waste the space if both are actually loaded?

Most likely this will not be necessary unless DRDOS has a problem with
them. 98 probably has the right ones as this is probably an old driver
anyway and has been upgraded in 98.

No, you cannot use DEVICEHIGH with DPMS.
Yes you can use DEVICEHIGH with SETVER and should.

Anywhere from 20 to 30 is okay. I think I have mine set higher than that
for networking purposes and just never bother to change it.

Some evry old programs use it and if you use CP/M-86 it will also use
them. I leave it that way. Some people set it to zero.

That is the most common setting for it and I think it is the default
setting.

You need to change this or your CDROM will never be recognized. I always
set it to =Z, but you really only need to set it to the maximum you
have. I don't like to have to remember to reset it when I add more
partitions or drives to the system, so I set it to the max and forget
it.

It does not really matter where you put it because DOS is only loaded
after the config.sys file is read anyway.

Switching is the only one you can use for a 286. You can use either for
386 and higher. The switcher is much like early WINDOZE. It just
switches tasks. Multitasking allows programs to be run in the
background. I usually set the ticks to 1 and 5.

This looks okay. The only thing is, I don't like to use delayed writes
unless I have a UPS connected to the computer. If you lose power, you
FAT can get scrambled. Since we lose power quite often around here and
sometimes the brownouts will cause the system to reboot and I don't have
a UPS, I set the DELAY=OFF.
