Which utility are you using to play audio CDs? If not too large
(< 500 Kb), can you please send it to me via private email (ZIPed with
no long filenames) for analysis purposes?

What happens if you change the order of the two /D:drivername switches
in the NWCDEX command line. Are you then able to play audio on both
drives?
Are you using any other redirector drivers, like any kind of networking
software, DRFAT32, or the like? If so, please try to unload them all
and see if this solves the problem. Also, try to swap the order of
the redirector drivers loaded and check again.
> Known problem?
I do know of a few problems with NWCDEX, including improper exit in the
case the installation fails (may leave drives in an intermediate state; crash if /E
is used, but no EMS present; does not free environment after installation, and
a few other minor quirks), not always recognizing some alternative Primary
Volume Descriptors (PVDs) on some CDs (e.g. Kanji), and some more or
less obscure problems in conjunction with playing audio CDs on systems with
multiple CD drives (sometimes just not possible or crashes). In particular
I recall having fixed a bug (in 08/1998) with INT 2Fh/1510h, where on
multi platter CD changers the sub-unit field was not (properly) updated in
the device driver header in respect to CX.
However, I never had a chance to test this, because I donīt have a CD changer,
and the NWCDEX 2.81 shipping with DR-DOS 7.03 does not contain this fix.
BTW. NWCDEX issues before 1994-11-23 (before 2.50) did not update the
sub-unit field at all, but from then up to 1995-01-11 (2.80) it was updated in
some cases, but this partial solution was removed for 2.81 to work around
a problem with Adaptecīs Audio CD Player for Windows.
I would be interested in your results with for example NWCDEX 2.80,
if you can find this in one of the late Novell DOS updates. You can find
NWCDEX 2.50 in the OpenDOS 7.01 package.
> Slave at first EIDE is a CD-RW; slave at second IDE 4xCDROM.
Does this mean you *are* in fact using a 4x CD changer (which model?)
or were you just refering to a quad-speed drive? (In the case you are
using a actually using a CD changer, please also send me the DOS
based drivers.) Well, the CD-RW should not make a difference, but
on the other hand itīs not a "normal" drive, too, as it may also have
multiple entities on the interface side (which model?).
Hope it helps,
Matthias
