Yes, this is pretty much true with systems made after about 1990. In
older systems 8088/80286/80386 and many early 80486 systems this was not
a problem.

This is true starting with WINDOZE 95 and DOS 7.x

This depends on what you are doing with DRDOS. When using DV rather than
the DRDOS Task Manager I use QEMM. However, for TM I prefer DRDOS
EMM386, I actually get more memory as long as I do not need EMS.

I finally picked up a copy of it recently, but have not had a chance to
check it out. I don't recall which version I got. Where can I get those
updated patches?

QEMM is very good, especially with DV. I quit using it when I figured
out and fixed the problems with TM. If I need maximum memory available
with EMS, then I will probably make a muliple boot option selections in
the config.sys to set up various memory managers depending on what I
want to do. You do have to read a lot of the QEMM tips (QTIPS) and have
a good knowledge of how to use QEMM to get the maximum use out of it.
There are a tom of tricks you can use. I used it for several years and
had friends that used it, we exchanged information with each other and
also joined echeos for QEMM and DV on FIDOnet.

Yes this is true and not even the DRDOS version number may not apply
because the EMM386.SYS file has been updated many times. For example, if
you upgrade from version 7.02 to 7.03 using the upgrade files, the file
is different from the 7.03 release. Now with 7.04/05 out there are even
more.

Yes, and as I mentioned earlier, even the BIOS/chipset can make a big
difference. What will work on one system may not work as good on
another.
