I have been using InfoZip for some time and never had a problem
unzipping old zip files from pkzip 2.04g.

Note also that latest version of InfoZip has LFN suport, making it
the _only_ 100% free archiever that you can use in batch files
(I said this once on this list and some people disagreed, but
all alternatives they suggested were shareware _not_ free)
I tested files archieved by InfoZip (zip.exe vers. 2.3) and it
was compatible with all Windows programs I could test :-)).

Don't forget ENZIP (available at www.download.com ) which is
a very good WinZip equivalent (better in some ways) and is
also 100% free.

Alain
