Yes, VERIFY is disabled in Patrick's configuration, so this does
not apply to his configuration. But I usually try to give hints
for all list members, that's why I often reply in a more general way.

No. (However, internally there are difference between the /V
verify switch provided by some of the external tools, and the
internal VERIFY command, but that's a different story. I was
speaking of the VERIFY command, that effects NWCACHE.)

The hint on verify is independent of the NWCACHE options.
When verify is enabled, NWCACHE cannot defer any writes,
that is, it writes through (even if NWCACHE /S shows differently).
Try VERIFY OFF and you should see a big gain in performance
of the disk I/O system, when you also use /DELAY=something.
