I was not aware of the LPT4 in 7.02. I only used 7.02 for a very short time.
It did not load DOS HIGH properly, so I used 7.02 with the 7.01 kernel and
never really nothered to look at it that closely. NOTE: When playing around
with different kernels from different versions of NW/DR/OPEN DOS, you may
have to replace some of th commands from that particular version that
belongs to the kernel. For example, SHARE has to be the same version as the
kernel or you cannot use it. There may be others, but I have not run across
them yet. I don't use a lot of stuff that other people do for device
drivers. I try and use a little as possble to get the maximum amount of
memory.
I'll check out the 7.02 upgrade/beta kernel one of these days and see if it
also has LPT4 listed. I suppose a similar techniqoe that you described could
be used for COM5-COM8. However, when I have someone that needs more than 4
COM ports I usually recommand getting one of those intelligent multi-serail
port cards, that way you don't use up a bunch of IRQs. This would mainly be
for networks using dumb terminals.
