For those interested in the book "Hackers" Heroes
of the Computer Revolution, by Steven Levy:

The best-selling story of the whiz kids who
changed our world.
Covers the software hackers of MIT to the hardware
and software
hackers of Silicon Valley.

The last section in the 1984 book covers Richard
Stallman, who
calls himself the last true hacker left on earth.
He left MIT
in 1983 and started a project to write a version
of UNIX and
give it away free to anyone who wanted it .He
called it GNU for
GNU's not UNIX. Thus began the Free Software
Foundation and
now - GNU Linux, which anyone can download for
free off the
internet and thousands of Hackers are spending
hundreds of
thousands of hours for free writing and re-writing
the software
for Free Gnu Linux, with Stallman still hanging
in there tough.
